Two brothers made a $2,000 Doritos ad and beat Budweiser
In 2009, Doritos let customers make their own ad. Two unemployed brothers from Indiana made one for just under two thousand dollars, with volunteers as the cast: a guy throws a snow globe through a vending machine's glass and gets free Doritos.
Other advertisers paid about three million dollars for thirty seconds. When USA Today had regular viewers score every ad, the brothers' ad scored highest, ahead of Budweiser's company, which had held that spot ten years in a row.
Viewers didn't score budget, actors or brand. They scored whether they liked watching. A stranger deciding whether to keep scrolling past your post does the same, so make it something they'd stop for even if they'd never heard of you.
